Dr. Tim Waterboer is a biochemist and epidemiologist and head of the Infection and Cancer Epidemiology research group at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). His group develops assays for molecular diagnostics of oncogenic infections, including high-throughput multiplex serology and nucleic acid detection methods in tumor tissue. Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) and their role in head and neck cancer is the main research topic of his group which has substantially contributed to biomarker development for early diagnosis of HPV-driven oropharyngeal cancer.
