Dr Neil Weir MD MA FRCS qualified from King’s College and Westminster Medical School in 1965 and was Consultant ORL surgeon to the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford from 1978–2002. From 1987–1997 he was Honorary Consultant Otologist to St George’s Hospital Neuro­science Centre. He wrote Otolaryngology – An Illustrated History in 1990 (2nd edition with Albert Mudry 2013) for which he received the University of London George Davey Howell Memorial Prize. He became president of the British Society for the History of ENT in 2007.

Neil Weir was concurrently president of the Sections of Otology and History of Medicine of the RSM (2001-2) and served as vice-president of the RSM (2002-4).
